The First Spanish/Chinese Workshop "Centre of Excellence for Plant-Environment Interactions (CEPEI)”

CEPEI, is a newly established joint international research centre between the Spanish Centro de Biotecnología y Genómica de Plantas (CBGP, UPM-INIA) and two Chinese research institutions. The Institute of Genetics and Developmental Biology (IGDB) and the Shanghai Centre for Plant Stress Biology (PSC). IGDB and PSC are two world-leading plants research institutes from the Chinese Academic of Science (CAS) and the CBGP (UPM-INIA) holds the accreditation of Centre of Excellence Severo Ochoa (SO) from the Spanish Research Agency.

The creation of this new International centre brings together three world-leading plants research institutes to tackle the global challenge of producing enough food for the world population by generating the science of excellence and developing technologies for a sustainable agriculture. By putting together key researchers from these three prestigious institutions and by allocating additional R&D resources to this initiate, CEPEI expects to generate frontiers knowledge and to develop novel technologies for improving crops nutrition and adaptation to environmental stresses, which are highly demanded by the agriculture sector.

As an opening CEPEI initiative, The First Spanish/Chinese Workshop "Centre of Excellence for Plant-Environment Interactions (CEPEI)” will take place in Madrid on 2nd March 2020. Seventeen recognized researchers from IGDB and PSC will participate and give talks on various topics. The workshop is divided into 4 themes: Computational/Synthetic Biology and Genomics, Plant Adaptation to Environmental Changes, Improving Plant Responses to Biotic Stress and Empowering Plant Nutrition.
